What is Terp Thon?
Terp Thon is a student organization at the University of Maryland that works year-round to raise money and awareness for Children’s National Hospital in Washington D.C., our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. Our efforts culminate in a 12-hour Dance Marathon every March, where we reveal our fundraising total for the year. We stand for 12 hours to represent the typical length of a nurse’s shift at Children’s National.
We are one generation fighting for the next. Terp Thon is a part of the nationwide Miracle Network Dance Marathon movement, working alongside more than 300 colleges across North America to change the future of pediatric healthcare.
Everything we do is For The Kids. Terp Thon’s fundraising success is a direct result of our close relationship with our Miracle Families and Children’s National Hospital. It is through our Miracle Kids that we stay motivated to be the best we can be. Throughout the year, Terp Thon has events which unites patients at Children’s National Hospital and the UMD community.
We are a community. UMD’s diverse student organizations, Greek life, university departments, faculty and staff, and alumni as well as local Maryland high schools and businesses unite under our one cause. At our annual Dance Marathon, Miracle Families from the hospital join us on campus to celebrate their strength with the community that rallies around them all year.
